Genesis GV90 outshines Rolls-Royce with luxury features

Genesis has introduced its new flagship electric SUV, the GV90, featuring a limited-edition variant called the Neolun that competes with top-tier luxury brands like Rolls-Royce.

The GV90 Neolun: A Luxury SUV Without Compromise

The Neolun, named after the Korean term for “New Moon,” offers a level of opulence and innovation uncommon in full-size SUVs. Its standout feature is the Neolun Arch Gate, a set of B-pillar-less coach doors that open independently, creating a wide entryway without the usual structural support.

The cabin includes an airbag that covers the whole glass roof. Inside, the Neolun resembles a private lounge more than a vehicle. The second row features reclining seats with a center console containing a refrigerator, control screen, and integrated tables. Front passenger seats can swivel to face rear occupants, a feature favored in high-end Korean and Chinese markets. Materials include semi-aniline leather and genuine stone trim, with five exclusive color combinations, two of which are purple.

The Executive Suite, available only on the Neolun First Edition, reduces seating to four and adds heated wood flooring, reinforcing the vehicle’s emphasis on bespoke luxury. Privacy is ensured through roller blinds and a glass partition separating the cargo area from the rear seats.

A Platform Built for Flagship Luxury

The GV90 uses Genesis’ new eMP platform, designed specifically for flagship models. With a 127.8-inch wheelbase—5.6 inches longer than the BMW X7 and nearly matching the Rolls-Royce Cullinan—it maximizes cabin space and ride comfort. Both the standard GV90 and Neolun share a 123.5-kWh battery, the largest in any Hyundai Motor Group vehicle, providing an estimated 311 miles of range in the U.S.

Dual motors generate over 650 horsepower, paired with an electronic limited-slip differential. The air suspension adjusts ride height based on road conditions, while active rear-wheel steering improves handling.

The exterior draws from the Korean moon jar, a traditional porcelain piece known for its elegant curves. The design remains clean, featuring a clamshell hood, Micro Lens Array headlights, and a chrome 3D mesh lower bumper. The Neolun distinguishes itself with its coach doors and standard 24-inch wheels, while the standard GV90 offers a more conventional appearance with optional 22-inch wheels.

First Edition models feature unique two-tone paint and interior combinations, such as Jaipur Rose and Seychelles Beige with Quince Brown upholstery.

Technology That Blurs the Line Between Car and Lounge

The GV90’s interior combines analog luxury with advanced technology. Below the 23.6-inch OLED screen, glass buttons control climate and infotainment functions, while a large volume knob sits between the center air vents. The Cinematic Display expands to 24.6 inches when parked, increasing screen space for media.

A 25-inch head-up display replaces traditional gauges, projecting speed, navigation, and driver-assistance details. The Bang & Olufsen Premier 3D sound system includes 25 speakers, Dolby Atmos, and a Virtual Venue feature that mimics the acoustics of famous concert halls. Ambient lighting highlights design elements, and massage seats offer enhanced comfort.

Starting the GV90 feels like activating a high-end appliance. The vehicle powers on automatically when the driver pulls the door handle. The motorized shifter rotates from the 12 o’clock position to 2 o’clock, while the Crystal Sphere Controller adjusts toward the driver.

Despite its innovations, the GV90 retains practicality. The standard model can seat six or seven, while the Neolun accommodates six. The First Edition limits seating to four, though Genesis suggested this configuration may expand later, given its popularity in models like the Mercedes-Maybach GLS.

The GV90 and Neolun redefine flagship vehicles by prioritizing customization and technology over traditional performance metrics. For buyers who view their vehicle as an extension of their lifestyle, this SUV presents a strong alternative to established European brands.

Genesis plans to release the GV90 in the first half of 2027, though pricing and production details remain undisclosed.

This launch signals a shift in how automakers approach luxury vehicles, focusing on individual preferences and cutting-edge features.
