BMW M marks one million cars with electric M3 reveal - electric bmw m3
The one-millionth BMW M vehicle, an electric M3 in Fire Orange III, rolls off Munich’s assembly line during a ceremony attended by CEO Frank van Meel.

BMW M has produced its one millionth vehicle, marking a milestone that comes as the brand shifts focus toward electric performance. The celebration centered on a BMW M3 rolling off the assembly line in Munich, painted in Fire Orange III, a color chosen for its visual impact. The car was handed over to Frank van Meel, CEO of BMW M, during a ceremony that highlighted both the brand’s legacy and its future direction.

The milestone arrives after more than 50 years of BMW M, but the company’s attention is now fixed on what’s next. The most significant development is the upcoming all-electric M3, which will be built in Munich using Neue Klasse technology. This makes it the first high-performance model to adopt the platform, following the electric BMW i3, and signals a major shift for the M lineup.

Munich’s main plant has a long history with the M3—production of the current model began there in 2020, creating a strong connection between the car and its workforce. By 2027, however, the factory will produce only electric vehicles, a transition enabled by a €650 million investment. The upgrades include a new body shop, redesigned assembly areas, and revamped logistics, all completed without disrupting ongoing production.

For BMW M, the one-million-vehicle mark proves that its core philosophy, balancing track performance with real-world practicality, remains compelling. Yet the brand is now applying that same approach to electric powertrains. The new M3 will serve as the clearest example of this transition, blending BMW M’s identity with next-generation technology. If the electric M3 delivers the same driving experience as its gasoline-powered predecessors, it could redefine what high-performance means in an electric era.
