The automotive firm Saleen has released a limited preview of its upcoming effort, showcasing a partial rendering. The SR Widebody sketch features pronounced flared fenders and a rear-mounted wing, suggesting a focus on significant downforce, and is based on the current S650 Mustang platform. Specific output numbers and a launch timetable have not been disclosed. What is certain is that Saleen is again turning to ordinary consumers for financing, a strategy that has attracted as much buzz as the vehicle itself.

The visual shared by Saleen is a computer-generated illustration, with much of it concealed beneath a dark overlay. Visible elements include dramatically expanded front and rear fenders that extend farther than any existing Saleen Mustang variant. A sizable wing is mounted on the trunk lid, appearing larger than the aerodynamic device Ford equips on the Mustang GTD—a model already noted for its track-oriented aero package. This comparison alone raises expectations for the performance envelope Saleen intends to achieve.

No details regarding the powertrain, horsepower goals, or a schedule for a formal reveal have been provided. This mirrors the approach taken with the S1 supercar, where the company displayed design cues long before finalizing mechanical specifications. For reference, the Mustang GTD utilizes a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 delivering 815 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque, with a price tag exceeding $325,000. Any configuration Saleen develops around the widebody kit will inevitably be measured against that benchmark. The company has not indicated whether the SR Widebody will stem from a standard Mustang GT or the track-focused Dark Horse, though the latter’s reinforced chassis and larger factory brakes would logically support such aggressive fender work.

Investor Involvement

The financing component provides clearer numbers. Saleen is conducting a Regulation Crowdfunding drive on Wefunder that issues a SAFE (Simple Agreement for Future Equity) with a valuation cap of roughly $45 million, rather than offering straight common stock at a set per-share price. In a separate filing, the firm proposes a Regulation Crowdfunding offering of common stock priced at $1.50 per share through Invown, with a pre-money valuation reported just under $45 million. Both campaigns are aimed at individual contributors rather than institutional backers.

Saleen characterizes this round as capital coming “from individual investors like you.” Earlier reports placed the combined contributions on both platforms at approximately $110,000, and the active Wefunder SAFE and Invown stock initiatives continue to fluctuate as new pledges arrive and some are withdrawn. Initial investment tiers ranged from $1,500 to $50,000, with the highest level offering a 5 percent discount. While the styling pushes the limits of the current Mustang, the company’s financial model remains anchored in the direct-to-consumer approach that has defined its recent activities. Regulation Crowdfunding enables small enterprises to sidestep traditional banking channels, though it also subjects them to the unpredictability of retail-sourced capital.
